OSF is currently running and organising various projects, working in the field to help underprivileged children from the Nairobi slums by means of efficient and sustainable projects. These projects include the improvement of learning environments (involving construction work and renovations, the implementation of safety regulations and the enforcement of school boarders), the implementation of safer and more conductive teaching and learning skills (aided by teacher training programs, infrastructural improvement, feeding programmes in the schools and the improvement of available educational resources) and the provision of economic support to the local communities by means of a Resource Centre, equipped with library, computer lab and teaching and meeting rooms.

Founding OSF EA

The NGO Orphelins Sans Frontières was created in France in 1994 following the Rwandan genocide.  In 2002, the East African section of OSF opened in Nairobi. However, OSF East Africa is financially independent from OSF France. OSF EA operates thanks to volunteer directors, 2 salaried office members, and funds from private and public donors. Since 2002,nearly 60 institutions and schools in different slums of the city have benefited from OSF EA's actions and capacity building support, which represents approximately 300 teachers and more than 7000 children, but since 2006 the NGO has broadened its field of activities with the aim of making its actions more sustainable.

OSF EA was founded in 2002 in Nairobi with the objectives

  • to defend orphans and destitute children
  • to economically empower women and the youth to self-reliance and human development
  • to train teachers from informal schools in the slums areas of Nairobi and beyond
  • to support informal schools with material, logistical and technical assistance
